For any agency owner, growth is always on your mind. You want your temporary recruitment agency to thrive, picking up new clients and expanding your database of temporary workers by attracting the top talent.
While it’s fun to dream of success, you can’t let your agency fall behind in reality. There are a lot of things you should be doing to keep growth consistent, which we’re going to talk about in this week’s blog.
Number One – Find your Recruitment Niche
In the early days of your agency, finding a niche is vital. When you have a small team, you can’t try to cover all bases, and should instead pick a sector or industry that suits your experience, and focus on that.
For example, many recruitment agencies work within healthcare, providing temporary doctors and nurses for clinics and hospitals across the country. Some workers have a range of skills, perfect for covering for sickness or absence, whereas others are specialists who can fill a skill gap or help with rare treatments.
Logistics is another common choice. There will always be high demand for drivers, warehouse staff, and office team members who can will help keep the country running.
If you choose a niche, you can gain a better foothold in the wider recruitment industry. Instead of competing with the well-established names, you can find a gap in the market and will soon gain recognition.
Number Two – Market your Agency
Every business needs good marketing. And in an industry as competitive as temporary recruitment, you need to pull out all the stops if you want to stand out.
There are a number of ways to get your agency’s name known. From TV ads to a strong social media presence, it’s important to use a diverse approach that has a solid budget attached. If you’re just starting up, look at what your peers do and see if you can emulate a similar approach.
Marketing isn’t just designed to attract new clients, although any that do find you will be a huge boost to your agency. You also want to encourage temporary workers to join your ranks. But choosing you over a more established agency can be seen as risky, so make sure you deliver on your promises and have some good incentives too.
Number Three – Networking and Events
When you have an agency, it can be too easy to stay in a bubble. Even if you speak to a few peers who have their own agencies, it’s important that you build a bigger picture of the industry as whole.
There are recruitment-focused networking events across the country that will allow you to mingle with agencies of all shapes and sizes, as well as the companies who support them.
The same is true for events. The annual Recruitment Expo is something no agency owner should miss, as the talks and networking opportunities can provide huge inspiration for your growth and development. You can also arrange a stall for yourself, giving you a way to entice new clients and future collaborations.
At events like these, you’ll also find plenty of stalls where companies promote the latest technological developments that can benefit your agency. Speaking of which…
Number Four – Stay Modern
If you refuse to update your agency, or are behind the times, you’re restricting your growth. This is more common for older agencies, but can affect new start-ups too.
Modernising can take many forms, but the most obvious is the systems and software you invest in.
If you have a basic CRM that hasn’t been top of the line since the early 00s, it will be affecting your agency. While it may work fine, it is probably much slower than a modern equivalent, and lacks a lot of features that are standard in a modern agency. This isn’t just something that improves efficiency; if your agency is seen as one that is constantly pushing the technological envelope, it will entice clients and temp workers too.
But you should also be careful with your investments. Constant changes will make it hard for your team to keep up with the systems, which can lead to errors or delays. You could also invest in a system that isn’t right for your agency, either too complicated, too simple, or just not suited for your niche.
This is happening a lot with AI tools. While some are proven to work great, and improve efficiency, some are having the opposite effect. Check out our AI tools blogs for more insight into this side of recruitment.
Number Five – Invest in Reliable Third Party Support
If you’re looking to improve your agency as a whole, you need to accept that you can’t do it all alone. Unless you want to double the size of your team, and can afford all of the new salaries that involves, it’s better to invest in 3rd party support providers who can take some of the pressure off.
